Honourable Commissioner of Finance, Zamfara State
Muhammad Bello AUTA is a Certified Chartered Accountant with extensive working experience in both public and private sectors, including international development partners. Began working career in 1987 with the Ministry of Finance Sokoto state and progressed to the position of Asst. Chief Accountant in Zamfara State Ministry of Finance before transferring service to NITEL in 1998. Rose to the position of DGM (Finance) in 2002.
Joined the services of Peugeot Automobile Nig. Ltd., as GM (Finance) in Feb. 2006. Played key roles in financial restructuring of NITEL and PAN LTD., for the eventual privatization of these national Assets. Served as DG (MDG’s) in Zamfara state from 2008-2010 and later as Director Finance and Accounts at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) until retirement in 2020. Re-engaged as Senior Special Asst. (Admin & Finance) to the FIRS Executive Chairman and voluntarily terminated the role in August 2023 upon nomination to serve as a member of the Zamfara State Executive council with responsibility for Finance Ministry.
Holds a BSc. Accounting degree from Ahmadu Bello University and an MBA from the University of Leicester (UK). Attended many executive development programs notable amongst which are the Public Policy Program at Harvard Kennedy School, USA; Global Executive Leadership Program at Howard University, Washington DC; Oxford Advance Management Program, UK; Leading for Results Program at INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France and Strategic Finance program at IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland.
